I think getting spring ready is a great way to shake off those winter blues. And although most people start spring cleaning from the indoors and stretch out outdoors, I think it’s best to go the other way around. Freshening and cleaning up outdoor spaces, doing some gardening work and finishing off any outdoor improvement projects that got left undone is good way to change your perspective, prioritize anew and feel some serious inspiration for those indoor home improvement projects you may have on the back burner.
The weather today might be quite cold, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming of warmer weather and my little patio with lots of new plants, a canopy of lights, clusters of lanterns, my hammock and a couple of sun loungers. Sounds idyllic? Not really, for almost any outdoor space can deliver this with a little inspiration and some loving.

The biggest secret to make outdoor spaces work for you is to have an abundance of greenery that will add in texture, patterns and various shades of green. If you don’t have a long enough stretch, then you can always go vertical.
As a matter of fact, vertical walls covered in an arrangement of pots can create an awesome looking accent, so don’t hesitate to take things in another direction. Believe me, vertical gardens work great in small city spaces.

Create clusters
Grouping potted plants of the same kind or using the same kind of pots but different plant, will create a powerful visual element that will never go unnoticed. It connotes to a subtle design intent. Similarly, a cluster of lanterns layered in your space at different heights will create a cozy ambiance and a summery hygge feeling that you will appreciate in the coming months.
Add lights
I don’t think I can emphasize enough how important lighting is. Adding pendant lights over your outdoor dining table or sitting area, candles and lanterns in various spots will help to create that perfect feel. Additionally, consider creating a canopy with hanging lights (i.e. fairy lights, small lanterns or whatever else you may have at hand). It will surely upgrade your space and your house guests will find it really hard to bid you goodnight.
Furniture
Rattan and wicker furniture – usually the safe choices when it comes to outdoor furniture – will add an organic feel. Personally, I love teakwood because of the way it feels and its water tolerance/resistance. However, there are many more stylish options out there, capable to please anyone. The key is comfort. Therefore, opt for various seating arrangements that will give you versatility during the time you spend outdoors while being comfortable too.
Textiles
Believe it or not, adding a flat weave rug outdoors can make everything feel a lot more homey, while defining your conversation pit. Also, it can help make your outdoor spaces feel as an extension of your indoors. Another thing you may consider adding is drapery that can add a sense of privacy and a touch of luxury. Of course, let’s not forget the decorative pillows and a throw or not that can build on the style you are going after by adding color, pattern and an element of visual interest. Overview
Outdoor spaces are perfect for entertaining family and friends and creating precious well lived moments. Hence, I would never pass any opportunity to improve our outdoor living setup for it is an essential part of our lifestyle. And I think it’s fair enough to say that this is also true for so many of you. Hence, we have managed to turn our little patio in a multi-zone space where sitting, dining Al-fresco, and unwinding is all happening at the same time. We don’t little our small footage area cramp our style and neither should you!
